A
woman was arraigned in court for the charges of assault after slashing
her husband’s hand and nose with a machete on New Year’s Eve.
The court heard that on
31st December last year at Sipili Trading Center, Esther Nyokabi was at
her home in the evening and her husband Daniel Githura arrived late
after a drinking spree. Nyokabi who was waiting for him started an
argument.
Prosecutor
Charles Mugambi said that Nyokabi and her husband were fighting over
misuse of money that was set aside to buy clothes and good food for
Christmas and New Year.
Her
infuriated husband however tried beating her and in her defense she
took a machete and slashed his nose and mouth. He was later rushed to
Laikipia District Hospital where he was treated.
Resident
magistrate Peter Muholi adjourned the court and ordered that Nyokabi be
held at Nayahururu Women’s Prison till the next hearing to give the
prosecutor time to further investigate the case and produce the weapon
used during the incident.
