UNILAG confirms Bello as VC

Governing Council of the University of Lagos has confirmed Prof. Rahamon Bello’s appointment as substantive Vice-Chancellor of the institution.
The appointment takes effect from Monday for a period of five years.
Before his appointment, Bello was the acting VC after the death of Prof. Tokunbo Sofoluwe on May 12.
Bello’s appointment was ratified at the council’s meeting on Saturday.
Born on October 6, 1948, in Iboro, Yewa North Local Government, Ogun State, the professor of  engineering attended Egbado College, Ilaro, Ogun State,  passing  out in 1966 with Grade One in the West African School Certificate Examination.
He later attended Technical College, Ibadan, now The Polytechnic, Ibadan, where he  obtained the Ordinary National Diploma in mechanical engineering in 1968.
Meanwhile, National Universities Commission described Bello’s appointment as the 11th VC of UNILAG as “a welcome development”.
The Executive Secretary of NUC, Prof. Julius Okojie, told the News Agency of Nigeria that the appointment of Bello was well-deserved,  having worked closely with Sofoluwe  as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor.
