Lagos State Government Seals Off the Headquarters of Lord’s Chosen Church (PHOTOS)

The headquarters of the Lord’s Chosen and Charismatic Revival Church on Ijesha, Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos, were sealed off by the Lagos State Government over environmental nuisance.

The Officials of the Ministry of the Environment shut down the Church in the morning of on October 6, 2013, and prevented the worshippers from having their Sunday service usually attended by thousands of faithful.

Investigations revealed that the Church does not have solid waste disposal facility. It burns its waste inside the Church premises, thereby exposing the lives of its worshippers to serious health hazard.

A substantial part of the sprawling Church lies on the Odo Asimawu Canal drainage channel, thereby impeding the flow of storm water. Continue Reading
The Church also built its toilets on the canal, thereby discharging all its human waste into the canal.
In order prevent an outbreak of epidemic, the state government had to seal the entire Church premises.
The government accused the Church of defacing and degrading the environment and refusing to abate the
nuisance even after it had been served abatement notice to upgrade the environment.

Mr. Tunji Bello, the Commissioner for the Environment, said the Church had committed lots of environmental abuse which it must abate before the massive edifice could be re-opened by the government as such illegality could not be tolerated any longer.
According to him, the Church did not have proper waste management system, adding that it burnt its refuse inside the Church, an action which ran fowl of the environmental and sanitation law of the state.

“The Church does not have proper sanitary system and they discharge their wastes into the canal. Most of their members trade on the expressway and we don’t want that,” the Commissioner stated.

Mr. Bello added that the Church would only be re-opened if it constructed new toilets as well as bagged its solid waste as well as managed such waste properly, saying that the Church must build a sewage septic tank for the treatment of waste water. He also assured that the state government would not shirk its responsibility of protecting Lagos environment and ensure that its residents were protected from environmental abuse.

The Commissioner stated that the Church must also ensure that none of its members trade on the expressway, while the Church must remove illegal attachments built on drainage channelalignment in the area.

He said any structure to be erected by the Church must be about 50 metres away from the drainage channel and ensure that the environment was kept clean, after which the government would re-open the Church.

Reporters who visited the Church in the morning of October 8 noticed many members of the Church who were working frantically to clean up their environment. Massive demolition of structures built on drainage alignment has also started.

It was not possible to get direct comments from Churches’ officials as they were not authorized by the Pastor for giving interviews.
The Lord’s Chosen is founded by Pastor Lazarus Muoka, who serves as the General Overseer of the Church.

SHOCKING: Nigeria’s Embassy Attacked By Armed Group In G’Bissau

Are these small countries not taking us for a ride? ARMED groups Tuesday attacked the Nigerian embassy in Bissau, capital of Guinea-Bissau, a country of about 1.7 million people. The reason for the action is not yet known.

The event is happening just as the country is preparing for its general elections slated for next month.

Guinea-Bissau currently has an Interim President, Manuel Serifo Nhamadjo, who emerged in May 2012 to head a transitional government following the sacking of the country’s democratically-elected government by a military coup.

According to The Guardian sources, armed personnel and militias stormed the Nigerian embassy in a commando style, attacking everyone in sight and eventually causing the closure of the Nigerian sovereign outpost.

As at press time, members of staff of the embassy, including the Nigerian envoy to that country, Ambassador Ahmed Adams, were said to be taking refuge in a police station. No casualty has so far been reported.

All efforts by The Guardian to reach the Nigerian envoy to the country failed. Although his telephone rang, he did not pick.

Although the Federal Government was yet to officially react to the development yesterday, it was learnt that the supervisory Minister of Foreign Affairs 11, Ambassador Nurudeen Mohammed, rushed to the Presidential Villa yesterday ostensibly, among other things, to brief President Goodluck Jonathan. All efforts to reach the minister yesterday on the matter failed.

Events in Guinea-Bissau took a dangerous turn on April 12, 2012, when the army arrested Prime Minister Carlos Gomes Júnior who was about to be elected president. A military junta accused him of conspiring with Angola to curtail the military’s power and quickly installed transitional authorities, before officially stepping aside on May 22. International condemnation was swift, but differences developed between the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP).

The country was actually in the process of conducting elections when the military overthrew the constitutional order on April 12, 2012. This incident resulted in the suspension of the country from all international organisations. However, following the country’s inability to form a government well over a month after the coup, Nigeria, in close collaboration with ECOWAS, assisted in negotiations that resulted in the transitional government led by President Manuel Nhamadjo. Since then, Nigeria has provided various forms of assistance to Guinea- Bissau to the value of $50 million.

The Guardian learnt Tuesday that some high grade pick-up vans meant to be donated next week to Guinea-Bissau for the upcoming elections have now been put on hold following yesterday’s ugly development.

Boko Haram Suspect, Kabiru Sokoto files N300m suit against FG

The alleged mastermind of the Christmas day bomb blast that killed about 44 persons and wounded 75 others at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla, Niger State, in 2011, Kabiru Umar, a.k.a Kabiru Sokoto, yesterday, instituted a N300 million suit against the Federal Government. 

In an application he filed before Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, Sokoto, who is answering to a two-count terrorism charge, urged the court to award the money to him as exemplary and general damages against the Federal Government over alleged torture and beatings he suffered in the hands of operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS. 

He made the application shortly after his team of lawyers, led by Mr. Sheriff Okoh, urged the trial court to discharge and acquit the accused person for want of incriminating evidence linking him to the Boko Haram Islamic sect. 

It was the contention of the alleged Boko Haram kingpin that the government failed to establish a prima-facie terrorism charge capable of warranting his conviction

BBA: I'm making money in Ghana - Excited Pokello reveals

FORMER Big Brother Africa (BBA): The Chase Zimbabwe representative, Pokello Nare, who has been in Ghana for the past two weeks with Ghanaian BBA housemate and lover Elikem Kumordzie says she is making money in Ghana as she parties. She said she cherishes the "quality time" she is having in the West African country.

Pokello has met Elikem's relatives and reports from Ghana say she has often been spotted at shopping malls shopping with her prospective sisters-in-law.

The programme in Ghana involved a lot of travelling from region to region. The lovebirds toured and partied in three regions in Ghana with the last party held in Ghana's oil city, Takoradi, on Monday. The parties were well funded and supported by industry giants such as sponsors of BBA, Airtel and Smirnoff.

Asked about her stay in Ghana, Pokello said she was having a great experience since she was also spending quality time with Elikem.

"All that partying I'm doing here (Ghana) is not just partying, those are paid appearances," she said.

Pokello, who refused to disclose the amount of money she had made in Ghana, said there was more to the parties.

"We charge for all our appearances at clubs and currently we are raising funds for a two-year-old girl in Ghana who was born with a hole in her heart to enable her to undergo surgery in South Africa," she added.

The mother of one seems to have taken her relationship with Elikem further. She said she was ready to marry Elikem and was waiting for him to pay her bride price.

Besides partying, Pokello has signed endorsement deals which she said could not be disclosed until the commercials and billboards go up.

She has also met influential ministers in Ghana and top actors such as John Okafor, who is popularly known in entertainment circles as Mr Ibu. Pokello has also been marketing Elikem's designer clothes as she has been attending events clad in the designer outfits.

When Elikem came to Zimbabwe a few weeks ago, he spent most of his time travelling and attending a series of parties in Harare and Bulawayo. He barely had time to rest as he had to do a lot of travelling and appearances at different venues.

The two lovers used some of the proceeds they garnered from the appearances to give back to the community when they donated blankets and foodstuffs to Thembiso Children's Home in Bulawayo.
