WHERE ARE THE CABS?

where are the cabs
It has come to the notice of C.U students that the Canaanland cab operators who are usually found around the school have for about 2 weeks just disappeared into space. The school management has not come forth to give any explanation but there are rumors going on that the chancellor specifically asked that the cabs should stop carrying students because they were developing very lazy habits.
We all pray this will only be temporary because most of the times the hundred Naira is always worth it.

Okay, they are still just friends, but Rihanna shared on Instagram this somewhat intimate photo of Chris Brown in béd, two days after they were sighted leaving a night club together.
Even as this photo tells us nothing about their relationship status, per say, it does confirm that Chris Brown is a Simpsons’ fan.
It is well.

Jonathan, sell the refineries now

ANOTHER damning report has exposed the depth of corruption in the Nigerian oil and gas sector. The Idika Kalu National Refineries Special Task Force, like previous reports, revealed the dismal state of Nigeria’s four government-owned refineries, thus depicting how colossal funds spent on their Turn Around Maintenance have gone down the drain. The revelations in the report are serious ones that cannot easily be dismissed.
The report claimed that Nigeria had the third largest refining capacity on the continent with its  445,000 barrel per day installed capacity, but had 18 per cent capacity utilisation and efficiency, compared to South Africa with a capacity of 540,000bd and capacity utilisation of 85 per cent and Egypt with 774,900bd capacity and 81 per cent efficiency level. The report then made a watertight case for the sale of the moribund state-owned refineries.
The Kalu committee further revealed that, of the 42 oil refineries operating in Africa, the three in Nigeria recorded the worst performance in terms of efficiency and capacity utilisation. By the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation’s admission, the combined average refining capacity utilisation for 2010 was 21.53 per cent as against 10.90 per cent in the previous year. The figure for 2008 was 24.11 per cent, which is 51.34 per cent more than that of 2007. Even the marginal improvement in capacity utilisation was achieved at a huge cost.
It is no longer news that the country’s four refineries barely function, which is all right for those with sufficient political connections to make big fortunes from imported fuel. Every successive government had also had its share of the juicy TAM contracts, most of them in a dubious manner. While the late dictator, Gen. Sani Abacha, awarded a major contract valued at $215 million in 1997 for Kaduna refinery alone, the Abdulsalami Abubakar administration in 1998 set aside $92million for the refineries without achieving any result. During President Olusegun Obasanjo’s first term (1999 – 2003), it was estimated that between $254million and $400.4million was wasted on the rehabilitation of the refineries and pipelines. In 2007, the TAM contract for Kaduna alone cost about $24 million in cash and materials worth $30 million, bringing the total to about $54 million. The record is shockingly awful.
Curiously, that is exactly what the Federal Government is planning to do again.  The $1.6 billion Alison-Madueke TAM is expected to begin in January 2013 and is scheduled for completion in October 2014. Nothing will come out of it, except opening up another avenue for graft. That the original firms which built the refineries have been contracted by the Ministry for the purpose, as repeatedly emphasised by Alison-Madueke, is immaterial. It is more like an old wife’s tale. The experience since 1999, with hundreds of millions of dollars appropriated yearly for TAM but without results, is enough to establish the futility of further cash injections.
Why is it that oil firms operating in the country run oil refineries elsewhere and refuse to do so here? Singapore, with its total oil-refining capacity of 1.3 million bpd, is a major oil refining and trading hub in the region, but has no oil deposit. India imports 70 per cent of its crude oil requirements, mostly from Middle East. However, the country is not only self sufficient when it comes to refining the crude oil but is also able to export refined petroleum products.
It is not the right thing to do for government to build new refineries or even repair the existing ones.  As the Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, rightly suggested, the private companies that have been issued licences to build their refineries should be encouraged. The Kalu committee’s build their refineries should be encouraged. The Kalu committee’s recommendation that the refineries should be sold within 18 months should be implemented.  All over the world, refineries are changing hands on a regular basis.
Among other deals, British Petroleum just recently sold its Texas City Refinery in the US to Marathon Petroleum Corporation for $2.5 billion. In April, Delta Airlines announced that it was buying a closed 185,000 bbl/day Phillips refinery in the Philadelphia area, United States for $180 million, and would spend $100 million to get it back up and running. Let the buyers of Nigeria’s obsolete refineries use their money to do the TAM, as was the case with Delta Airlines and Phillips refinery deals.
This grand fraud must end.  The proposed $1.6 billion TAM for the refineries is uncalled-for and should be dropped. Billions of dollars earmarked for renovating refineries have vanished over the years.  This $1.6 billion is also up for grabs. Nigerians have had enough of the Federal Government’s insincerity and intrigues on the refineries. It is deeply troubling that Alison-Madueke & Co are still fixated on wasting resources on them. It can’t work.
The Federal Government needs to create an enabling investment environment to encourage the private sector, through various incentive packages, for the establishment of private oil refineries for domestic consumption and export.  The stringent requirements for establishment of private refineries must be reviewed.  As Ghana has done, all that should be required for a private refinery are proof of funding for the project; technical capability of the company; refinery configuration and products specifications for the refinery and evidence of land allocation.

Rihanna and Chris Brown seems to be decided on being together now as they were both found spending Thanksgiving evening together at a German nightclub.
Shortly after wrapping her 777 tour in New York City on Tuesday, Rihanna jetted to Berlin where she traded turkey dinner for a night out with Chris Brown.
The pair was then seen leaving an after-party at Berlin’s Adagio nightclub in the same car. Rihanna heightened speculation about the status of their relationship after she posted a photo on her Instagram account on Wednesday en route to the German capital.
“All alone in my big ole jet!!! See u soon lover,” she wrote. “#Berlin #CarpeDiem,” she tweeted the next day in reference to Chris’ tour.

Jonathan Tasks Universities On Alternative Sources Of Funding

Nigerian universities have been tasked by President Goodluck Jonathan to intensify their efforts at generating revenue internally so as to meet their developmental needs.
He made the call in Zaria on Saturday at the Golden Jubilee Convocation of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Kaduna State.
Jonathan who was represented by Vice President Namadi Sambo, said that the call became necessary in view of the fact that government alone could not shoulder the burden of education.
While advising Nigerian universities to seek local and foreign assistance with a view to making the universities excellent centres of learning, the president called for collective efforts from all Nigerians to salvage the nation’s education system from collapse.
“Private organisations should join hands with the Federal Government to ensure funding of research and  scholarship.
“On our part, we shall continue to enhance funding and infrastructure development in our universities and other tertiary institutions.
“Education is a core aspect of national transformation agenda of this administration,” he said.
The president lauded ABU for its immense contributions to the development of education, and agriculture not only in the North but Nigeria at large.

Longest coma patient ever passes away after 42 years

The world’s longest coma patient, a Miami woman who had been called the ‘Sleeping Snow White’ during the 42 years she remained comatose, has died at the age of 59.
Edwarda O’Bara was a cheery high school student in 1970 when she suddenly fell ill, threw up her medicine and slipped into a diabetic coma.
But before she became comatose she turned to her mother and pleaded with her to ‘promise … you won’t leave me.’
Her mother stayed true to her word, enduring a grueling schedule to constantly stay near her daughter until the mother died five years ago and the woman’s sister became her primary care giver – until Edwarda passed away on Wednesday.
As a popular 16-year-old, Edwarda had a bright future ahead of her but then she became ill with a severe bout of pneumonia.
In the early hours of January 3 in 1970, she ‘woke up shaking and in great pain because the oral form of insulin she had been taking wasn’t reaching her blood stream,’ according to her family.
She was rushed to hospital and as she lay in her bed, she turned to her mother, Kaye O’Bara, and pleaded with her to stay near.
‘Promise me you won’t leave me,’ the teen begged her mother, according to the Miami Herald.
Terrified, O’Bara assured daughter, ‘Of course not. I would never leave you, darling,’ having no idea of the long ordeal ahead.
The mother kept that promise, taking care of her daughter, until Kaye O’Bara herself died five years ago.
For more than 35 years, Kaye O’Bara remained constantly by Edwarda’s bedside, enduring a grueling schedule to give her daughter around the clock care She would only sleep for 90 minutes at a time, so she would always be accessible to her daughter.
The devoted mother would not institutionalize Edwarda, even though the financial burden became a great challenge to the family.
Though Kaye died at the age of 80 on March 7, 2008, she never gave up hope that her daughter would one day wake up from her coma.
Edwarda’s father, Joe, had passed away in 1977. He died from a heart attack, believed to have been brought on by the strain of caring for his ailing daughter.
After their mother’s passing, Edwarda’s sister Colleen stepped in and continued the tradition to offer constant care to Edwarda at her home in Miami Gardens.
Colleen quit her previous job as a horse trainer to care full time for her sister.
‘I didn’t give it a second thought. She’s my sister,’ Colleen O’Bara said, ‘and I love her.’
As part of her care, her body was turned every two hours to keep away bedsores, she was given insulin and fed through a tube.
Colleen would also lovingly braid her sister’s grey hairs, suck the mucus from Edwarda’s throat to allow her to breath and constantly speak to her sister, assuming Edwarda was soaking up her every word.
She mixes baby food, milk, eggs, orange juice, Mazola oil, brewer’s yeast and a piece of white bread into a blender and then a wire mesh strainer, pouring the concoction into Edwarda’s feeding tube every two hours, day and night.
She suctions mucus from Edwarda’s throat, whispers endearments in her ear and braids her long gray hair.

Bomb Manufacturing Factory Located In A Rice Farm Uncovered In Mubi

Joint Military Operation overseeing security of Mubi, Adamawa State has uncovered another bomb manufacturing factory located in a rice farm, bringing to three the number of such factories uncovered by the security operatives.
The Brigade Commander, 23 Armoured Brigade, Nigerian Army Yola, Brigadier- General John Nwaoga while conducting newsmen round the premises of the building housing the bomb factory yesterday said, the discovery followed the arrest of one Mohammed Ibrahim at a road block in the area.
According to him, Ibrahim was nabbed at a checkpoint with over N3 million and 200 dollars and a pistol stuffed in his Honda salon car with number plate CF 26 SMK.
Nwaoga stated that the arrest of the suspect and his subsequent interrogation led security operatives to discover the building along the Mubi – Maiha road in the outskirt of the town.
Items discovered in the building include police uniforms, locally made grenades, charms, bags of fertilizers, gas cylinders, thousands of readymade cans of Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, remote control devices of different makes, car batteries and various sizes of wires, among other items.
Nwaoga expressed worry over what he described as frivolous allegations against security operatives saying that the culprits were not helping the Nigerians to live in peace and harmony.
According to him, the military was ever ready to deal with the terrorists, but added that the war could only be won with the co-operation of the communities who are expected to identify criminals and strange faces in their domains

Harmattan: Tips To Keeping Your Skin Hydrated

Harmattan period is usually associated with low humidity which simply means there is very little amount of water in the atmosphere compared to other seasons of the year. As a result the weather appears harsh to our Hair and Skin.
The good news is we can follow this few steps to keep our skin fresh and moisturized.
Body Skin…
* Like your face use mild moisturizing soap or body bath creams.
* Invest in body oil to retain moisture on the skin after bath. Do not completely dry your skin after shower; about 10% of moisture is retained if you apply on damp skin. You can pour few drops of oil into water before bath if you prefer.
* Apply your moisturizing cream or lotion all over your body including your under feet. Hydrating creams and lotion are best for all skin types this season * Apply your moisturizing cream or lotion all over your body including your under feet. Hydrating creams and lotion are best for all skin types this season.
* Apply hand cream during the day and night before going to bed. Invest in a hand cream if you don’t have one.
* Applying nail polish can help protect nails from excessive drying and hardening.
Your Face…
* Use mild soaps (even if you have oily or combination skin) to wash your face as harsh soaps and cleansing bars will remove all the oil on your face.
* Stop the use of face facial cleansers and toners that contain alcohol or astringents. Use only mild facial cleansers and toners. Facial cleansers and toners with a neutral PH of 5.5 are best.
* Always moisturize your face after cleansing (even if you have oily or combination skin).
* Remember to invest in a lip balm, lip salve or lip gloss. Always moisturize your lips before going to bed.
* LADIES: Always apply lip balm or lip salve before lipstick and if you prefer lip gloss apply after lipstick.
* GUYS: Well kept lips makes you appear groomed. So invest in a lip balm or lip salve for a non glossy moisturized lip.
Your Hair…
*  Wash hair with shampoo and conditioner as usual.
*  Don’t dry hair completely to retain some moisture in hair.
*  Apply hair oil, pink oils, lotions and creams to hair daily or every other day depending on hair type and severity of the weather
* Avoid using hair sprits, gels and strong hair hold. Mild styling mousse can be used for styling in their stead.
* Use hair sprays to add shine to your hair.
* Scarves and hats are amazing accessories that can be use to protect hair and still be fashionable.
Use this tips during this dry season and your skin will appear fresher and moisturized all day, every day.

Afrocandy attacks Critics As She Duets With J Martins On New Song

Self-styled voodoo woman and érotic singer, Afrocandy has blasted those she described as haters last week on her facebook page
Obviously excited by the prospect of a duet with contemporary highlife singer, J Martins, the singer had posted on her facebook page thus: “Watch out!! Afrocandy’s coming out with a brand new track titled ‘No Time For Haters’ featuring Jay Martins. In your faces haters!! Go eat some sh*t.”
Afrocandy, a mother of two based in the US, was in Nigeria to promote her debut album, Ikebe Na Money, a track, which critics say encourages women to demand money for séx and by extension promotes prostitution.
Consequently, she received a lot of flak and the obscene video never made it to the airwaves in Nigeria.

Stella Damasus Denies Dumping Acting

Rumour has it that Nollywood actress, Stella Damasus has dumped acting to pursue other things she had always dreamt of.
Relocating to Abuja was the first thing that made the rumour more profound, but the sultry actress said her relocation to Abuja was because “Abuja makes her think properly’’. Who would blame someone working in the creative industry for wanting to be where she can think properly?
However, in August, Stella was into some sort of radio tour in Abuja to promote her concert, tagged ‘The Alternative’ which held at the Abuja Sheraton Hotel. She also joined forces with Yinka Lawanson known as Lamboghinny to solicit for relief materials for flood victims in Delta state as well as turning a social motivator, teaching some ladies on how to handle matters involving men, money, sex and the fear of God. All these activities people believe may be clear indications that the Nollywood star wants out of movie making.
Stella has now cleared the air by confirming her relocation to Abuja and saying the gist about her dumping acting is false.
“It is not true I have quit acting because I have three yet to be released movies I have done and I just finished a short film. I am about to start a feature-length movie,” she said.

Joseph Benjamin-My Ideal Woman is...

Joseph Benjamin has risen so fast in the Nigerian entertainment industry. He’s arguably the hottest property in the industry now with award-winning feats in movies like Tango With Me and Mr & Mrs. To add to this blistering CV, he co-hosts MTN Project Fame West Africa, and he just recently got another endorsement from telecommunications giant, MTN, and he attributes his success to God.
Although, the Nollywood star broke the ice on his relationship status recently while shedding light on rumours surrounding his marriage and subsequent separation, he is not available though single.
Benjamin told Bella Naija; “I’ve been separated for a year now but we still keep a good relationship, and our separation was a mutual agreement. She is a good woman but I could not go on with the union anymore seeing the foundation it was built on was untrue. I have two wonderful children – a ten year old daughter and a seven year old son. They are an integral part of my life; their mum and I have a very good arrangement on how to balance their lives and make sure that psychologically they are stable and unaffected by our separation.”
Joseph Benjamin said they both started from the scratch when they married and she wasn’t richer nor did he marry her because of money.
To Joseph Benjamin, marriage is serious business which should be taken seriously.
“Marriage to me is ‘work.’ It is a big journey which can only be accomplished by two people who agree to come together for the journey in love. Love for me is beyond the word, it is an act.
“It is a journey and you have to totally understand the second person you want to embark on the journey with. For me, I am not available for now,” Joseph Benjamin told Showtime.
Benjamin says there is no woman in his life right now, but he disclosed to Showtime the kind of woman that may catch his fancy.
“For me, an ideal woman is somebody who has the beauty right from inside, not really an outside beauty. I mean one who understands life and who has passion for God. I do not like a woman who is materialistic but she has to look good. I’ m not really carried away by outside beauty but it is an added advantage,” Benjamin said.
After working with stars like Genevieve Nnaji, Desmond Elliot, Nse Etim-Ekpe, Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha , Ini edo, and Justice Esiri, Benjamin says he would love to work with Pete Edochie, Olu Jacobs Rita Dominic, Omotala Jalade and Stella Damasus. “I would also like to work with my sister from Kogi State, Mercy Johnson.”
Benjamin’s driving force he says “is to surpass every standard I have set for myself at every point in my career. I am also driven by the goal to achieve excellence that always pushes me to go beyond my limit. I always like to push myself to the edge.”
Joseph Benjamin gets a lot of strange calls. “I get a lot of strange calls from my fans. Some will call you and tell you they like you. Some will want to hear your voice. But I wonder how they get my number.”
Now that we know you are single Ben, gear up for more calls an outside beauty. I mean one who understands life and who has passion for God. 68-Year-Old Professor Of Physics Convicted Of Smuggling Cocaine

A court in Argentina has convicted an Oxford educated University of North Carolina professor of attempting to smuggle four pounds of cocaine into the United States.
Paul Frampton, a 68-year-old esteemed professor of physics and astronomy, says he thought he was flying to South America to meet with a bikini model but ended up getting caught in what they call a “honey trap.”
Frampton flew to Bolivia from North Carolina earlier this year after communicating with someone who claimed to be Denise Milani, winner of Miss Bikini World 2007. She never showed up. Instead, Frampton says he was met by a man who gave him a suitcase, identifying himself as an intermediary for Milani, and instructing him to take it to her in Argentina.
Once there, he says he could not find her and decided to board a plane home, with that suitcase in hand. Police opened it up at the airport and found more than four pounds of cocaine inside.
“He has a high IQ, is well-known and very distinguished in the field of physics and other scientific areas, but when it comes to common sense he scored a zero,” said former DC homicide investigator Rod Wheeler.
The Argentinean court sentenced Frampton to serve four years and eight months in custody after prosecutors there presented evidence of text messages they say Frampton sent to the person he thought was the model, saying, “I’m worried about the sniffer dogs,” and “I’m looking after your special little suitcase.”
The University of North Carolina has cut off Frampton’s salary in a move that prompted dozens of his colleagues at the university to sign a letter of protest to administrators. “As more information about his case becomes available … it becomes more and more obvious that Paul was the innocent, although very gullible, victim of a scam,” the joint letter said.
Many wrote separate letters of reference on a website they created to support the embattled professor, who is hoping to serve his time under house arrest in Argentina at a friend’s apartment.

From prison Frampton has said, “It does seem unfair that an innocent scam victim is treated as a professional drug smuggler.” Frampton’s Argentinean lawyer told ABC News she would have no comment until having a chance to review the judge’s complete ruling, which she expects to be released early next week.
However, it appears this is not the first time Frampton has been in hot water over a woman. The Telegraph, a London based paper that serves Great Britain , reported that friends say he once met another woman online and flew to China to marry her. This time, the woman was real, but after seeing Frampton, she reportedly canceled the wedding.

37-Year-Old Mother Gives Birth To Her 16th Child And She Already Wants Another

Baker's wife Sue Radford knows what it is to have a bun in the oven - she has just given birth to her 16th child.
The 37-year-old supermum now has nine sons and seven daughters since welcoming little Casper into the world just over a month ago - in a labour that took just 16 minutes.
But incredibly, being Britain's biggest family alone is not enough for Sue, who told husband Noel as soon as she came home from hospital: 'I want another.'
The couple, who together run a bakery in Morecambe, Lancashire, are completely self-sufficient and receive no state benefits.
They live in a nine-bedroom former care home in the town which has an industrial-sized washing machine and a giant fridge to keep the mountains of food the family get through every day.

Food costs the couple £250 a week. Each day the family eats three loaves of bread, two boxes of cereal and 18 pints of milk while an average supper can include 16 pork chops, 15lbs of potatoes, three cabbages and 30 carrots.
'I just love being a mummy. We are so lucky,' Sue told The Sun. 'I get very emotional when I see the children all together.
'I know people stare. Some think they won't get the attention they need, but people don't realise how dedicated we are... And maybe we'll be lucky enough to have more.'
The couple began their family unexpectedly early when they were teenagers and she was still at school. For other couples this might have spelled disaster, but not for the Radfords, whose eldest son Christopher is now 23.
Sue finished school and they married when she was 18, planning to have 'perhaps another one or two' children. Once Sophie, 18, and Chloe, 17, had arrived, however, the couple discovered they were enjoying parenthood so much that they just kept going.
It was after the arrival of Jack, 15, and while Mrs Radford was pregnant with Daniel, 13, that the couple found their current house - a nine-bedroom Victorian former old people's home that was in need of work. And sure enough it wasn't long before with each new room they decorated, there were children to share it.
In quick succession they had Luke, 11, Millie, ten, Katie, nine, James, eight, Ellie, seven, and Aimee, six. Then, after a brief gap, came Josh, four, Max, three, and Tilly May, two, followed.
A year ago Sue gave birth to Oscar before Casper was born last month at a healthy 8lb and 8oz.
Mr Radford works hard running the bakery, which is just a short drive from home, while Mrs Radford helps out whenever she's not on maternity leave. And their extended family just got bigger after Sophie gave birth to Sue and Noel's first grandchild Daisy.
