Drogba, Kalou tip Super Eagles for title

Ivory Coast captain Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou have tipped their conquerors, the Super Eagles, for the AFCON title after knocking the erstwhile tournament favourites out of the competition.
The former Chelsea duo praised the Nigeria team for their courage and display in Sunday’s quarter-final clash.
“I was very impressed with the Super Eagles’ performance against us (Ivory Coast). It’s proof of hard work, relentlessness and the sign of a world-class team in preparation,” Drogba said.
“I don’t really see any team that can withstand Nigeria for the rest of the tournament. They keep improving by each game and level of the competition.
“That shows it’s a hardworking and resilient outfit. If they must take the trophy home they have to keep working, be creative and challenge any side like they engaged us.
“Wishing for and seeing victory is not enough. I feel this is Nigeria time but they must deserve it by proving it more on the pitch. The fact that the team arrived with a number of home-based players means we have to give them praise because that tells us there is football even within the continent,” he said.
Kalou said, “Nigeria have a good chance at the tournament after the way they played against us.
“We also played a good game but we did not play in our usual way. We were forced to play long balls and that was not our style. We are shaper when we play between the lines. By the time we found out how strong Nigeria were, we were already behind them and we did not recover from that.”
Kalou said his side knew how the Super Eagles would approach the match but it was impossible to match their quality in the game.
“We expected that Nigeria would play with so much power and speed but we thought that we could still make the difference. It was a top game but we did well in the second half despite conceding the winner.”

Eagles yet to get bonus

There were indications that the $15,000 graduated bonus promised each member of the Super Eagles for qualifying for the semi-finals was yet to be paid as the Nigeria Football Federation complained over lack of funds.
The NFF  said it was finding it difficult to fulfil its responsibility to the Super Eagles owing of lack of fund as Nigeria prepare to face Mali in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
A source from the NFF in Johannesburg said the body had a budget of N1.4bn submitted to the National Sports Commission but got around N400m at the start of the Nations Cup campaign.
“We don’t know exactly what is going on. We are still expecting money from the NSC so that we can pay our debt and fulfil other responsibilities to the team. They have done well by reaching the semi-finals and we should show our appreciation,” said the source who preferred to be anonymous.
He said the Eagles have shown great understanding so far but expressed the fear that they could be discouraged to offer their best if they were not adequately motivated.
The source however said that there was hope because of the team’s performance, adding that the NSC was likely to be preparing to pay the money before the match with Mali.
“We have hope that with the progress we have achieved, the money will come before Wednesday,” he said.

Drogba says It is over

Didier-DrogbaJOHANNESBURG (AFP) – Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba is unsure of his international future after a shock weekend exit from the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations his country were favoured to win.
Drogba, the 34-year-old former Chelsea striker playing in the African football showcase for the last time, was well policed as Nigeria won the quarter-final 2-1 in north-western mining town Rustenburg.

Ivory Coast have been favourites for five consecutive Africa Cup tournaments, but the closest they came was finishing runners-up to 2006 hosts Egypt and 2012 surprise side Zambia.
After this string of failures, there has been widespread media speculation about the futures of ‘golden oldies’ like Drogba, goalkeeper Boubacar Barry and centre-backs Kolo Toure and Didier Zokora.
“It is over,” was the terse response of Drogba to reporters when asked about the Africa Cup of Nations.
In the 2012 final in Gabon, Drogba he blazed over a regular-time penalty, allowing Zambia to force a 0-0 draw after extra time.
But despite Drogba making amends by converting a shootout spot-kick, Zambia won 8-7 on penalties for one of the most stunning Africa Cup final shocks.
“We must now look ahead to the 2014 World Cup qualifying competition — with or without me,” added the striker, who recently signed an 18-month contract with leading Turkish club Galatasaray.
The shattered Ivory Coast stars prepared to head home Monday and turn their attention to the 2014 World Cup qualifying competition, starting with a home fixture against lightweights Gambia late March.
They visit Gambia and Tanzania during June and host Morocco in September and the group winners advance to a two-leg play-off for one of five African places at the World Cup in Brazil.
Ivory Coast started their campaign last year with a routine 2-0 home victory over Tanzania followed by a 2-2 draw in Morcoco, giving them a one-point Group C lead.
Coach Sabri Lamouchi took Drogba off against Togo in the opening game, axed him for the second group match against Tunisia, recalled him into a virtual reserve team that faced Algeria, and chose him to start against Nigeria.
He had only one scoring chance against the Super Eagles, controlling a cross with his chest and the shot was deflected wide with the Algerian referee ignoring legitimate appeals for a corner.
Drogba has been playing for Shanghai Shenhua in the China Super League, which finished last November, leaving the Ivory Coast captain short of match practice before the Africa Cup.

“T.B.Joshua, I love you”; Super Eagles Midfielder Onazi Says As Nigeria Qualifies For AFCON Semis

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have qualified for the Semi-finals of the ongoing African Cup of Nations, AFCON.

Nigeria beat Ivory Coast 2-1 in a tightly contested match that brought out the best we’ve seen in the Super Eagles so-far in this tournament.

Emmanuel Emenike unleashed a powerful shot from a free kick to put Nigeria in front before Newcastle United player Chiek Tiote who was unmarked in Nigeria’s 18-yard box scored the equalizer.

Sunday Mba might have done enough to earn himself a foreign club as the Warri Wolves midfielder scored Nigeria’s winner after his deflected shot beat the Elephants’ goalkeeper.

An unexpected win for Nigeria whose performance had been far from impressive in the tournament saw the players who gave their all rejoicing at the blast of the final whistle.

Super Eagles midfielder Ogenyi Onazi said as he rejoiced facing a camera, “T.B.Joshua, I love you.” Whatever that meant, Onazi.

T.B. Joshua is a Nigerian prophet known for his prophecies; maybe he got this point on too.

Congratulations Nigeria!

Reverend King Loses Case at Appeal Court, to Die by Hanging

A Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos, has affirmed the judgement of a Lagos High Court delivered on 11 January, 2007 that the General Overseer of Christian Praying Assembly, Chukwuemeka Ezeugo (alias Rev. King) should die by hanging for the murder of Ann Uzoh, one his church members. The judgement, read by Justice Fatima Akinbami, and supported by two other judges, Ibrahim Salauwa and Amina Augie, resolved all the grounds of the appeal against Rev. King. In the grounds of the appeal filed by the appellant, his counsel, Olalekan Ojo, contended that the deceased, before her death, said Rev King had nothing to do with her death.
Ojo, in his evaluation of evidence, argued that there were contradictions in the evidences given by the witnesses. Moreso, the appellant, through the case, proved the alibi that he was not at the scene of the incident.
However, all the grounds of the appeal were resolved against Rev. King because the judge said the witnesses gave evidences of how the victim was killed, especially the evidences from the 10 prosecution witnesses. In her conclusion, Justice Akinbanmi said: “the evidences against the appellant were overwhelming and damaging. Therefore, all the grounds of appeal were resolved against the appellant. The judgement of the Lagos High Court delivered on 11 January, 2007 is upheld and affirmed.”

ivory coast super eagles
Ahead of their quarter-final encounter against Nigeria, some Ivorian players are already talking tough and have insisted they won’t take the tie likely, as they pursue their first ever Cup of Nations trophy.
Former Chelsea powerhouse, Didier Drogba told reporters that “Nigeria is a tough side and we have to approach the game with a different strategy. We can’t afford to lose to Nigeria on Sunday.”
Emmanuel Eboue, who has had some fake quotes attributed to him this week, said that Nigeria was the favourites to win.
“Your country (referring to the Super Eagles) are more favoured in this game. We will try our best to win. We just have to win on Sunday because our target here is to win the trophy for our fans and people of Ivory Coast,” the Fenerbahce right-back said.

Journalist Exposes Her Privates While Interviewing Prime Minister On TV

An X-rated TV prank has left the prime minister of Serbia feeling a little overexposed after he was flashed by a glamorous presenter during an interview.
The country's Socialist party leader Ivica Dačić was midway through a discussion about Balkan politics when the young woman, wearing a particularly short mini dress, uncrossed her legs to reveal she wasn't wearing any underwear. The YouTube video, a clear copy of the famous scene starring Sharon Stone in the 1992 film Basic Instinct, has already had more than 1.2million hits
